Chiropractors focus on locating and correcting misaligned vertebrae (known as subluxations) which “pinch” or interfere with nerves, often causing a wide variety of health issues. The means by which they correct these spinal misalignments is known as a chiropractic adjustment. This is a hands-on procedure performed by Dr. Berglund, applying a precise and gentle force to the misaligned spinal joints. The adjustment helps to restore normal vertebral position and remove nerve stress – not only helping to relieve your pain by correcting its cause, but lessening the likelihood of it returning.
Are all chiropractors and their approaches the same? The answer is no. There are many different techniques and approaches utilized by chiropractors, and, of course, their skill level using those techniques will vary as well. Dr. Berglund, in practice over 30 years, is a graduate of the prestigious Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA – the original school of chiropractic opened by the founder and developer of chiropractic in 1897. It remains to be the finest college in the profession today, and is known for graduating the top chiropractors skilled in the art of the chiropractic adjustment. Because of its reputation, many patients who know chiropractic will only seek a Palmer chiropractor knowing they will be in great hands.
Our focus at Berglund Chiropractic & Wellness is on three phases of chiropractic care: pain relief, correction, and maintenance/wellness. During the first phase of care, we want to help you get out of pain as fast as possible. The adjustments, along with other care and recommendations, are designed to take pressure off your nerves, reduce spasms, and bring you relieve as quick as possible.
The second phase of care is correction. As you begin feeling better, care will focus on the correction and stabilization of your spinal misalignment. Just as wearing braces corrects the alignment of your teeth over time by allowing the supporting ligaments to hold the new/corrected position, repeated chiropractic adjustments and home therapy allow for the supporting muscles and ligaments to hold proper spinal alignment – keeping pressure off of your nerves as you continue to heal. The final phase of care is known as maintenance or wellness care and is often looked upon as the equivalent of wearing a retainer after braces on your teeth have been removed. During this phase of care, periodic spinal adjustments are given to keep you feeling great and to maintain the correction obtained during the second phase of care.
We will make our recommendations based on what we feel is best for your individual problem, but ultimately you will choose what type of care you wish to receive – pain relief only, relief + corrective care, or maintenance care – based on an understanding of your condition.
We always review exam and x-ray findings with our patients to help you make an informed decision. We will always listen to you and honor your desires, and you will never be told you need more care than necessary.
We’re here for you, and look forward to working with you to restore and maintain your health.
