Often, when people think of arthritis they think of inflammatory arthridities such as rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis, but the more common arthritis is the non-inflammatory arthritis known as osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease (DJD). And, although it is not classified as an inflammatory arthritis, osteoarthritis can still result in inflammation due to the wear and tear placed on the joints.
Osteoarthritis is not an “old person’s disease”. It is frequently found in people in their 30’s and 40’s, and commonly caused by repetitive stress placed on misaligned joints over an extended period of time.
One of the main focuses at Berglund Chiropractic & Wellness in Stamford, CT, is on spinal biomechanics and its effects on the body. Our spines are designed to be straight when looking from behind and to have three natural curves when viewed from the side. When vertebrae misaligned and proper spinal curves are lost, degeneration often results over time from added stress being placed on one or more vertebrae.
If you're suffering from arthritis or spinal degeneration and are looking for a Stamford Chiropractor, give us a call and let us start helping you feel better today.
From everyday activities, to being overweight, to repetitive movements placed on the misaligned joints, your body can not handle the same stress as if it were in proper alignment. We often discuss with our patients the effects of subluxation degeneration. Simply put, this is the osteoarthritis that sets in from the spine being out of alignment for an extended period of time.
Phase 1 shows a loss of the normal spinal curve, phase 2 shows the resulting bone spurs and disc degeneration beginning to set in, and phase 3 shows the advanced arthritis setting in from neglect. Had the patient’s spinal curve been corrected when in phase 1, the resulting degeneration could have been prevented.
In phase 2, the focus of chiropractic care is to relieve pressure on the nerves and restore proper alignment as best as possible to prevent further degeneration. Once in phase 3, we attempt to reduce pressure on the nerves to eliminate pain and slow the progression of the arthritis, but curve correction is rarely possible.
You have choices regarding your health. You can choose temporary pain relief care or take a more proactive approach and correct the underlying cause of your health condition. Enjoying a pain-free lifestyle now as well as in the future is possible. Dr. Berglund’s focus on restoring proper spinal alignment and curves can help prevent or slow down the development of osteoarthritis and help you to live a more active and healthy lifestyle.
No Obligation! Let's sit down and discuss your health concerns to see if we can help you.
